The problem we are solving

Finding a good fundi in Kenya still runs on WhatsApp groups and word of mouth. You ask a neighbour, you get a number, you call it, and you hope. Nobody knows the price until the person is standing at the gate. There is no record of what was agreed, and no way to check whether anyone else has used them before.

Merik Sokoni puts that whole thing in one place: a searchable list of local providers, prices shown up front, a chat that keeps a record, and public reviews from people who actually hired them.

How it works

1

Search and browse

Look by service, category or town. Filter by rating, price and whether they are available now.

2

Book or bargain

Book at a fixed price, or send your offer on a bargainable service and go back and forth until you agree. Chat with the provider before anyone commits.

3

Done, then review

When the work is finished you get a one-time code by email. Give it to the provider to close the job, then leave a review.

There is more detail in the Terms of Service, and providers can read the setup guides for their trade.

What it costs

  • Customers pay nothing to Sokoni. Not to search, not to book, not to chat.
  • Providers list for free. Every provider starts on the free plan with no time limit.
  • Providers who want more listings, better placement or extra features can buy a plan or a one-off boost. That is the whole business model — see Pricing.
  • We take no commission on any job. Not a shilling.

You pay the provider directly — cash, M-Pesa or bank transfer, whatever you both agree. Sokoni never holds the money for a job, which also means we cannot refund one. That is set out plainly on the Cancellations & Refunds page.

How we try to keep it honest

  • Providers are reviewed before they go live. A person at Merik looks at each application. It is a check, not a guarantee — use your own judgement too.
  • Only real customers can review. A review needs a completed order, and there is one review per order. No bought stars.
  • The completion code. A job is only marked done when the customer hands over a code sent to their own email. The provider cannot close it alone.
  • Completion rate is public. Providers who accept work and then cancel see it on their own profile.
  • The chat is the record. If there is a dispute, we can read what was actually agreed.

Your privacy

Booking a home service means giving a stranger your address, and often your exact location on a map. We take that seriously: coordinates are tied to one order, visible only to you and the provider doing that job, and providers are told in the Terms that they may not keep or reuse them. Read the full Privacy Policy.
